After a nasty injury following a car accident, Emily had been forced to let go of a lot of the exercise she’d previously had in her life.
By the time she came to We Are Group X, she didn’t feel fit and understandably had concerns about exercising again.
What she needed wasn’t to be pushed straight into doing everything.
She needed somewhere she could find her feet, rebuild her confidence and, most importantly, feel safe.
The Challenge
Emily’s injury had changed her relationship with exercise.
She wanted to become active again, but she needed to know that what she was doing wasn’t going to make her injury worse.
Her goal was to:
- Gradually return to exercise
- Rebuild her fitness
- Regain confidence in what her body could do
- Exercise without worrying about aggravating her injury
- Feel more energetic day to day
She needed support that worked around her, rather than feeling like she had to keep up with everyone else.
Why She Nearly Didn’t Start
Returning to exercise after an injury can be daunting.
There’s the physical challenge, but there’s also the worry about hurting yourself again or not being able to do the same exercises as everyone else.
For Emily, being able to start at her own pace made all the difference.
There was no pressure to know everything or be able to do everything from day one.
The Turning Point
From the beginning, the exercises were adapted for Emily.
She was given the time to find her feet and gradually build her confidence, knowing that if she was ever worried about something, a coach would be there to help.
That reassurance helped her feel safe — and the more confident she became, the more she wanted to keep coming back.
She also discovered that she wasn’t alone.
Other members had their own injuries, challenges and goals, creating a real sense of solidarity and support.
The Results
Since joining Group X, Emily has:
Rebuilt her confidence in exercising
Returned to fitness at a pace that felt right for her
Exercised safely with movements adapted around her injury
Started feeling much more energetic on the days she trains
Found a supportive community of people with their own goals and challenges
Benefited from coaches who check in and notice when she’s struggling
Most importantly, exercise has become something she feels confident doing again.
Here’s what she had to say:
“What was amazing about coming here was the pace at which I was allowed to find my feet and get my confidence back. All the exercises were adapted for me, so I felt safe. I felt like it wasn’t going to make my injury any worse.”
What This Means for You
An injury, lack of confidence or simply not knowing your way around a gym doesn’t mean exercise isn’t for you.
You don’t have to arrive knowing how everything works, and you don’t have to keep up with anyone else.
With the right support, exercises can be adapted and you can build your fitness and confidence at a pace that works for you.
Emily’s advice to anyone wondering whether Group X could work for them is simple:
“Whatever your goals, whatever you’re struggling with, this place will find a way of working with you. Don’t be put off — definitely give it a go.”
